- M.A. Elementary Education B.A. Music and Religious Studies Peralta Creek Middle School Oakland, CA Provided language arts and social studies instruction to approximately 82 sixth graders. Made use of reading aloud to students as a means of modeling skills necessary in order to be a successful reader. Utilized backwards planning as a means of establishing long term instructional goals which were simultaneously correlated to state standards. Secretary of Student Site Council, a committee composed mostly of parents geared towards improving student success at school. Designed curriculum for an Advisory and Exploratory class, comprised of sixth and seventh grade students. KIPP: Los Angeles Preparatory School Utilized meta-cognitive reading strategies as a means of developing grade level independent readers. Collaborated with teachers on a daily basis in order to create units of instruction that combined learning from other classes. Coordinated the school’s first “Career Day” by bringing together students with a variety of professionals within the Los Angeles area. Co-created the school’s first newspaper team, creating a newspaper twice per quarter.
